To solve the problem, it is necessary to identify which type of inappropriate urination is occurring. How can you tell the difference? First of all, where is your cat urinating?
- If the urine is located on a horizontal surface, it is likely to be inappropriate urination . In this case you may observe your cat in the same squatting posture as when he/she urinates in the litter box, and may be due to urinary tract issues. It is recommended to consult your veterinarian for further diagnostic testing and work-up.
- If the urine mark is located on a vertical surface (wall, furniture,…) at about six inches from the floor, it is very likely urine marking/spraying. Your cat will stand to urinate with their tail held high above their head.
