Cats do not like moving home

moving to a NEW HOME

Moving to a new home can have a big impact on cats. Moving changes their territory and completely removes their familiar marks, which can leave your cat feeling disoriented and confused.

Moving can be tough for everyone

Cats become very comfortable in their home environment and moving to a new home, where everything is unfamiliar, can be very unsettling.

Their new home looks different, smells different, and the familiar marks your cat leaves behind to help orient itself are gone.

There are many things we can do to help our cats feel safe, secure and happy in their new home.

Tips for a stress free move with your cat

Plug in a Feliway Diffuser in your current home to help comfort and reassure your cat while you prepare for the move. Having realtors, possible buyers or tenants entering your house can be stressful for your cat, and packing all of your belongings can make your cat’s previously familiar environment seem strange and foreign.

Plug in a Feliway Diffuser in your new home, ideally 24 hours before moving your cat. When your cat arrives, the pheromones in Feliway will send a message that this is a safe and familiar place.

Before travelling with your cat, see our tips for making the carrier a familiar, safe place.

When you arrive at your new home, place the carrier on the floor, open the carrier door and let your cat exit when it feels ready. Never force your cat to exit the carrier.

Keep the Feliway Diffuser plugged in for a minimum of 30 days to help your cat settle in. Replace Refills monthly, as needed, to provide ongoing comfort and reassurance.

Apply Feliway Spray to your cat’s bedding and other key surfaces in your new home such as doorways and door frames, corners of walls and new furniture or cabinetry for additional, targeted support.
