Learn about FELIWAY Classic Diffuser

How does it work?

Cats communicate through natural messages released in the air: “happy messages” (scientifically called pheromones).
When comfortable and happy, cats mark their territory as familiar by rubbing their face against corners, furniture, people, or other cats at home. By doing that, they release a message. When present in the environment, these “happy messages” provide reassurance to the cats.
When modern life conflicts with their natural needs, cats don’t feel completely comfortable.
They do not release these “happy messages” anymore and show signs like urine spraying, scratching and hiding.
FELIWAY CLASSIC sends “happy messages” to cats and makes them completely feel good at home.
Using feline natural reassuring messages, FELIWAY helps your cat happily adjust to pace of modern life, restores full happiness and avoids signs like urine spraying, scratching and hiding.

How fast will I see results?

A lot of cat owners start to see results within the first 7 days with their cat.
However, every cat is unique. Depending on how long the signs have been present and how severe the signs may be, it may take longer to see effects. We recommend using FELIWAY CLASSIC for at least 1 month.

How long should I use it?

Most of the cats will benefit from a permanent use of FELIWAY Classic to create a happy environment in your home. The minimum recommended duration is one month.

When to use?

  • To comfort your cat at home constantly
  • If your cat shows signs like urine spraying, scratching walls or furnitures, in multiple locations
  • If your cat shows signs of discomfort like hiding, reduced activity, reduced appetite, over grooming…
  • If you anticipate changes in your home (moving home, renovation, redecorating, arrival of a new pet, arrival of a new family member…)

Where to use?

  • In the room where the cat spends most of its time
  • Or in every room where scratching or urine spraying happen most often.

Where NOT to use?

  • Hallways: Cats spend very little of their time in hallways, so the efficacy would be weaker.(Except if the hallway is the room where scratching or urine marking happen most often)
  • Near litter box: cats spend very little of their time near litter box, so the efficacy would be weaker. (If the litter box is in the same room where your cat spends most of his time, it will not prevent your cat from using its litter box)

When NOT to use ?

  • If your cat has no access to a clean litter tray, it will pee in your home, and FELIWAY Classic will not help.
  • If your cat has no access to a scratching post, it will scratch your walls or furniture (because scratching is an essential need of cats), and FELIWAY Classic will not help.
  • If your cat is peeing, hiding or eating less for medical reasons, FELIWAY Classic will not help.It is important to consult a veterinarian to rule out potential medical issues in your cat.
  • If your cat has conflict with another cat living in your home, we recommend using FELIWAY Friends instead
  • FELIWAY will not help in case of tension or even aggression towards owners. In such situations, we recommend to consult your veterinarian or a behaviourist.

Learn about FELIWAY Friends

How does it work?

FELIWAY FRIENDS sends “harmony messages” to cats and restores harmony between cats living together. Using feline natural appeasing messages, FELIWAY FRIENDS helps your cats live in harmony and avoids tensions, conflicts and fighting.

How fast will I see results?

Many cat owners start to see results within the first 7 days with their cats.
However, every cat is unique. Depending on how long the tension between cats has been present and how severe the conflict may be, it may take longer to see effects. We recommend using FELIWAY FRIENDS for at least 1 month.

How long should I use it?

Most of the cats living together will benefit from a permanent use of FELIWAY Friends to ensure harmony in your home. The minimum recommended duration is one month.

When to use?

  • If your have 2 or more cats living together, and if they shows signs of tension like chasing, blocking, staring.

Where to use?

  • Or in every room where tension or conflicts happen most often.

Where NOT to use?

Hallways: Cats spend very little of their time in hallways, so the efficacy would be weaker.
If conflict between cats frequently occurs in a hallway, distribution of the cats’ resources should also be reconsidered within the home, to make sure each cat has an easy and free access to litter box, food and water bowl, resting area, without being potentially blocked by another cat.

When NOT to use ?

  • If your cats do not have access to individual food bowl and litter box, competition will not resolve and the tension between your cats might continue

  • If the conflict between your cats is associated to urine spraying or scratching in the home, both FELIWAY Friends and FELIWAY Classic are recommended. The two diffusers should be plugged where cats spend most of their time and can be plugged in the same room.

Use our FELIWAY Diffusers

Where to plug?

(The oily vapour carrying FELIWAY messages rises in a column of warm air above the diffuse)
  • In an outlet of its own

Where NOT to plug?

  • It would block the diffusion if the Diffuser in plugged:
    • behind a door
    • underneath furniture
    • in any socket without 1,20 m clear above it
  • In a multi-plug or multi-socket
  • With an adaptor
  • With an extension lead

How many do I need?

Use 1 diffuser for an area up to 70m².
Use several diffusers for a large home, or for  a multi-floor home

How long will it last?

  • 1 refill lasts up to 30 days
It is recommended to replace the refill every 4 weeks, even if  a small amount of liquid remains in the vial  (the vial can never be completely empty because the last few drops of liquid are not enough in contact with the wick to allow the diffusion process)
  • 1 diffuser lasts 6 months. Renew the Diffuser every six months to ensure optimum effect

How fast will it work?

In 24 hours, the  Diffuser will be fully functional and FELIWAY will spread in your home.
For situations that can be anticipated, you should plug in the Diffuser 2-3 days in advance

Resolve FELIWAY Diffuser issues

How to check proper function of the Diffuser?

When plugged into an outlet, the diffuser will get slightly warm, indicating it is working properly.

The diffuser is warm

The diffuser contains a heating element that diffuses the product, so is designed to be warm to the touch.

The level of liquid is not going down

It is going down, but you can’t see it !
The diffusion of the liquid from the Diffuser is a very slow process. In normal conditions of use, it is difficult to see any change in the vial over the first week of use. Slight variations will occur depending on air turnover.
To make sure your diffuser is working properly, check that:
- the wick is not broken
- the device is turned on all the time (sometimes an electrical outlet is controlled by a wall switch)
- finally, try the device in a different electrical socket.

Visible mark on your wall or furniture

The oily vapour (carrying FELIWAY “messages”) rises in a column of warm air above the diffuser. If this rising air is blocked (e.g. under a shelf, table, furniture) the oil may re-condense and leave a visible mark.)
DON’T plug the diffuser  under any furniture or object protruding from the wall (minimum clear distance above diffuser = 1,20 m).

Diffuser and air conditioning?

Be careful to plug the diffuser away from the air-conditioner, vents, cold air returns, or exhaust fan.

Diffuser and open windows?

Usage with open windows and doors may result in diffusion at a faster rate. The product may not last the full expected 30 days. In such a case, a different diffuser location should be considered within the house, targeting the area where the cat spends most of its time.

Learn about FELISCRATCH by FELIWAY

How does it work?

Cats are territorial by nature. They like to feel in control of their territory. They have their own way of telling other cats “this is mine”! They scratch in visible places and leave marks and “territory messages”, coming from their paws.

FELISCRATCH by FELIWAY sends “territory messages” to cats and encourages kitten or newly adopted cats to scratch where you prefer, like on a scratching post.

Using feline natural territorial messages, FELISCRATCH by FELIWAY is a simple way to prevent your cat’s inappropriate scratching in the home.

How fast will I see results?

75% of newly adopted cats use the post treated after 15 minutes; 87% after 7 days

FELISCRATCH by FELIWAY is clinically proven to teach your kitten or your newly adopted cat where to scratch.

How long should I use it?

It’s recommended to use it until the end of the 1 Month Program (once daily for 7 days, then 1 pipette at the beginning of week 3 and 1 pipette at the beginning of week 4).

Apply FELISCRATCH by FELIWAY daily during the first week to help reinforce the message to the cat and give good scratching habits. Then, apply weekly to continue developping into a lasting habit.

When to use?

  • When adopting a new kitten or a cat, to prevent inappropriate scratching in the home due to the change in living environment
  • When renewing scratching post or introducing a new post in the home

Where to use?

On your cat’s scratching post:

  • Place the post in a visible area, near a favorite napping location, since cats enjoy a good stretch and scratch after awakening. As close as possible to the item currently scratched inappropriately by the cat.
  • Do not place the post behind furniture or in a corner,
  • The post should be sturdy and stable, and tall enough= at least 90 cm
  • We recommend using only vertical scratching posts (made of cardboard or rope).Using a vertical post helps communicate the pheromonal message to the cats and encourage them to mark with their claws.

Where NOT to use?

  • On the areas where you don’t want your cat to scratch, like furniture, walls... (use FELIWAY Classic Spray on these areas)
  • On a scratching pad put onto the floor
  • On a scratching pad hidden behind furniture
  • On a scratching post not steady enough (hung on the door or just put against the wall without being attached)

When NOT to use?

  • FELISCRATCH by FELIWAY helps prevent scratching in unwanted locations. If your cat scratches several places at home, we recommend using FELIWAY CLASSIC Diffuser where the cat spends most of its time, to provide additional comfort.
  • If your cat scratches repeatedly on the same unwanted location place, then we recommend using FELIWAY CLASSIC Spray. Spray the scratching marks, and allow some time to dry. Never spray your cat.
  • FELISCRATCH by FELIWAY will not help in case of scratching directed towards owners. In such situations, we recommend to consult your veterinarian or a behaviourist.

Use FELISCRATCH by FELIWAY

How to apply?

To avoid potential spillage on fabrics, furniture or carpets, place down your scratching post on a sink or a newspaper as a precaution, and slowly apply the liquid product by drawing 2 or 3 lines on the post that will mimic the natural lacerations left by cats on a scratching post.

Allow to dry for 5 minutes and install the post vertically, preferably close to the area where your cat scratches, or where they usually rest.

You don’t need to apply when your cat is present, FELISCRATCH by FELIWAY is appealing enough to make cats scratch on the post even if applied in the absence of the cats.

How many do I need?

  • If you have 1 cat: offer 1 scratching post treated with FELISCRATCH by FELIWAY
  • If you have 2 or more cats: offer several posts, ideally one per cat, and apply FELISCRATCH by FELIWAY on each of them to encourage cats to use them, at least when introducing them into the home.

When should I renew application?

  • When introducing a new scratching post in your home
  • When renewing your cat’s scratching post
  • When stressful changes at home are anticipated

Why is my cat licking the product on the scratching post?

A few cats have been reported to lick the post treated with FELISCRATCH by FELIWAY, usually also rubbing their face intensely on the post. This is due to the presence of catnip in the product. Some cats may look very aroused. This has mostly been observed during the first days of use of the product, and no more during the next weeks.

In any case, there is no risk linked to the oral absorption of a minimal quantity of product after licking it.

Why is the product colored?

In order to mimic the visual marks (lacerations) of cat scratches. The colorant is dark blue to be easily visible from far by the cat and attract him to the post (and then promote the detection of the “territory messages”).

Will the color stain on my cat's paws?

This has not been reported in our field trials. To prevent any chance for possible staining on your cat’s paws, we recommend to let the product to dry for 5 minutes before letting your cat scratch on the treated scratching post.

In case of spillage, how can I clean the area?

FELISCRATCH by FELIWAY liquid content is washable with paper towel (to absorb) & a wet sponge on many surfaces. However, if splashed on a fabric material, this would need a more specific cleaning (washing machine if possible or use of a cleaning product), as the colorant will have been absorbed by the fabric. This is the reason why we advise on our insert to place down the scratching post on a sink or a newspaper before applying.

Will the color disappear after some time?

No the color will not disappear but will fade over time. The blue taint of the product fades progressively after its application on the scratching post. This is the reason why it needs to be reapplied daily for the first days, to repeat the message to the cat. It’s no more visible on cardboard scratching posts after a few days and remains as light blue on rope scratching posts.
